Azolla

Azolla

Azolla is a small free-floating fern with tiny threadlike roots dangling below the water. Azolla can grow very quickly and cover the surface of a wetland.

A wetland covered with azolla will prevent mosquito larvae from breathing air. This leads to a reduction in the mosquito population.

Azolla
is generally bright green, but it changes to a deep red colour when exposed to sunlight.
