White-faced heron

White-faced heron

White-faced herons are visitors to the wetland. They have a long tapering beak and a long kinked neck for darting forward to snatch up fast aquatic animals (ones that live or grow in water).

These birds may only stay a few hours in the wetland. They take up the best vantage points in shallow areas to find food – insects and other invertebrates, tadpoles and frogs.
