Pond slime

Pond slime

Many microscopic animals live in pond slime. Pond slime is a collection of algae that looks like long threads when observed under a microscope. The slime floats on the surface, forming a hard white crust when it dies. As water moves out through the wetland overflow, some of the pond slime may get caught among the rocks, providing food for many small animals.
