With changes to the VCE Study Design as well as preparing for the new Victorian Curriculum, we will be hard at work making sure all of our programs are aligned with the changes.

Maria James, who gave the keynote address at the Ecolinc VCE PD day on Friday 4th December, has provided us with a copy of her powerpoint presentation and has given permission for teachers to use any information contained within the powerpoint in their respective schools. Ecolinc's new signature program Footprints of the Western Volcanic Plains was launched on Friday 20th November 2015. Footprints uses the photographic panorama image titled ‘Volcano Dreaming’ as a stimulus to provide curriculum resources, materials and onsite programs to educate students about the biodiversity of the Western Volcanic Plains. Footprints consists of student worksheets, teacher notes, background information and other support resources.

Ecolinc is offering a fantastic professional development opportunity for VCE teachers on Friday 4th December to learn more about the new VCE study designs in Year 11 in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science in 2016. Maria James, Science Curriculum Manager at VCAA, will be the keynote speaker. Maria will provide an overview of the changes to the VCE study designs for Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Physics and discuss the implications of these changes for classroom teaching and assessment practices. In addition, Maria will lead a couple of workshops throughout the day about the use of posters in assessing extended investigations. Ecolinc will also lead a number of workshops outlining our VCE programs for 2016. Cost $80.00.

The Grassland Biodiversity of South-Eastern Australia is nearing completion. Ecolinc is collaborating with the University of Melbourne to expand the current Biodiversity of the Western Volcanic Plains Flora and Fauna Field Guide app to include grasslands across south-eastern Australia. The new app and website will feature a number of bioregions and associated plant and animal species. Ecolinc and University of Melbourne hopes to launch the app and website by the end of 2015.

Ecolinc is currently developing curriculum materials for Melton City Council, which complement a set of 12 portable panels called ‘Volcano Dreaming’ (produced by Inherit Earth through funding fom the EPA). When assembled the 12 panels form a 12 metre long and two meter high photographic panorama which depicts biodiversity on the Victorian Volcanic Plains. These panels can be hired from Melton City Council, Moonee Valley City Council, Hume City Council, Brimbank City Council and Languages and Multicultural Education Resources Centre.

This week, as part of our 10th Anniversary celebrations, a plaque was unveiled in honour of Suzanne Clark, the founding director of Ecolinc. Suzanne’s husband, Gary; the Principal of Bacchus Marsh College, Dionne Fenton; and centre staff unveiled the plaque on Tuesday to honour the significant contribution Suzanne has made to the centre over the past 10 years.
