Background
The Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act 1999 is the Australian Government’s key legislation to conserve Australian biodiversity. The EPBC protects important flora, fauna, ecological communities and heritage places. There are over 550 animals listed on the EPBC.
Designing an advertising campaign about an Australian animal listed on the EPBC, will help educate your community about the plight of the endangered species and actions they can take to help ensure its survival.
Key Learning Question
How can we raise awareness about the plight of Australian endangered animals?
Prior Knowledge
In this program students will be recording a stop motion clip using iMovie. Prior knowledge of this application would be useful.
Learning Intentions
In this program students will:
- Learn about Australian animals that are on the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act
- Gain an understanding of how to create a stop motion advertising campaign clip
- Learn how to develop a story board for an advertising campaign
Learn about advertising persuasive techniques
Activities
Students will:
- Define endangered animals
- Develop a story board advertising campaign to increase awareness about the plight if an Australian animal on the EPBC list
- Create a stop motion advertising campaign clip using iMovie
Note:
- This program runs from 9.00am – 2.30pm
- This special program is only offered in National Science Week from 11th to 15th August in 2025
- Maximum number of students for this program is 50 per day
